Obituary for James Guy Builteman

James Guy Builteman
James Guy Builteman
June 2, 1934 ~ October 17, 2013

Jim was born in Yale Oklahoma. The family moved to California when Jim was 12 years old. California was where he acquired a great love for flying at a local airport. He entered into the Air Force at the age of 17 and quickly navigated into the position of flight engineer. After 14 years of service in the Air Force he decided to become a Fireman which was his second love. During his tenure on the San Bernardino California Fire Department he was injured in a work related accident and was retired from the SBFD. He then went back to school and received his BA in computer technology. He soon put those skills to work at the US Air Force Audit Agency where he met Judy, the love of his life. He retired in 1985.

Jim's favorite sport and recreation was hunting and his favorite place to participate in this was the Western Slope of the Rockies in Colorado. During his hunting adventures here, he fell in love with Rifle Colorado and this is where he chose to continue his journey through life. Because of his love for the sport, he acquired his certification as Hunter Education Instructor through the DOW and for many years, taught the magnificence of the sport to all who would come to his classes. His favorite students were the children.

During his stay here in Colorado, Jim fought some valiant fights against cancer, but refused to surrender. On October 17, 2013 our Lord and Maker decided to invite Jim to that big hunting ground in the sky and he could not resist. As much as we all loved him, we decided he had earned that special privilege and we let him go with our blessings.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, his children, John and Shelly, and his step children; John, Anita and Candy, his sister's, Billie and Candy, 4 grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, and 10 step great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, Mary Mae and James Guy Builteman, brother Allen Lee and sister Jerrilyn Kay.

And if I go,
While you're still here...
Know that I live on,
Vibrating to a different measure
behind a thin veil you cannot see through.
You will not see me,
So you must have faith.
I wait for the time when we can soar together again,
both aware of each other.
Until then, live your life to its fullest.
And when you need me,
Just whisper my name in your heart,
...I will be there
