Obituary for Alice Flesch (Rogers)

Alice Flesch (Rogers)
Alice Flesch
3/18/1920 ~ 2/16/2013

Alice Flesch, formerly of Shelby, MT, entered into rest on Saturday, February 16, 2013, surrounded by her family in Rifle, CO. Alice was born on the homestead east of Oilmont to Lillian Adams and Earl W. Rogers on March 18, 1920, the second of ten brothers and sisters. During her childhood she worked the homestead and took care of her younger siblings.

She married Leonard Flesch on November 5, 1935, and moved into Shelby, where they started their family. Together they had four children; Beverly, Robert, Howard, and Shirley. She was preceded in death by Robert, Howard, & Shirley; husband Leonard; parents Lillian and Earl Rogers; brothers Alfred, Jay & Stanley; sisters Edith Bowman and Harriet Jacobson.

Alice was not only a devoted wife, mother and church-goer, but one of the hardest workers her family had every met. She worked at the Shelby Safeway until it burned down, followed by a long time engagement at the Shelby Buttery's Food until 1976 and finally IGA where she worked until she retired in 1987.

After her retirement Alice devoted her time to her garden, volunteering at the Shelby Senior Center, and traveling to spend time with her ever growing family. Alice had a special love of butterflies; she was a fierce card player, especially Whist and Pitch; and a member of the Royal Neighbors, and Alter Society. Always charming and charismatic, Alice loved making new friends, and her door was always open to her family and friends. Alice will be missed greatly by all those who knew her.

She is survived by her brother Burt Rogers of Shelby; sisters Doris Norely of Butte, MT, Winnie Metulko of Bent Harbor, MI, Rose Altenberg of Cut Bank, MT; sisters-in-law Beverly Rogers and Eunice Rogers, both of Shelby; daughter, Beverly Young of Seattle, WA; six grandchildren, Arby (Pauline) Flesch, Aaron (Rebecca) Flesch, & Jeannie (Paul) Schroeder, all of Rifle, CO, Liz (Ryan) Niemyjski of Sun Burst, MT, Stacey (Richard) Auger, and Kelly Young, both of Seattle, WA; ten great-grandchildren, Tyler Hardy, Tiffany Hardy, Tamra (Jed) Daman, Becky Flesch, Kramer Potack, Nicole Potack, Samantha Auger, Andrew Auger, Allison Blakley-Young, and Charlie Mae Flesch; three great-great-grandchildren, Gabe Hefley, Ayden Hefley, and Mackenzie Daman; and many, many nieces and nephews.

Alice will be interred in the family plot in Shelby, MT. Services will be held for family and friends later this year in Shelby.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Alice's name to the Shelby Senior Center, PO Box 337, Shelby, MT 59474.
